Addiction causes tremendous suffering, disability and lost economic productivity worldwide. The cognitive aspects of addiction, that is the way in which decision-making and executive function are affected, remain poorly understood and incompletely treated. We are studying the ways in which regions of the prefrontal cortex participate in altered decision-making in addiction that may be amenable to treatment with neuromodulation.
